Applications of Diamond Micron Powder
Nowadays, Diamond powder is regarded as a super-hard fine abrasive in the International, no matter made from natural diamond or synthetic diamond. With the development of new and high-tech, it is widely applied in various industrial field.
The grinding capacity of diamond is 1.25 times higher than Cubic Boron Nitride(CBN), 2.85~3.57 times higher than silicon carbide and 6.25~7.14 times higher than white corundum. Therefore, as a super-hard abrasives with superior grinding capacity, diamond powders are attached with high value by the growing industrial countries.
The grinding capacity of diamond powder includes the grinding for workpiece and its self wear-resistant and anti-crushing capacity, which depends on its hardness, size, strength, particle shape as well as thermal and chemical stability. To sum up, the application of diamond powder as abrasive has three aspects:
1. Applied in polishing and grinding precision instrument of industry,science and medical;
2. Applied in producing resin bond, metal bond and electroplated tools;
3.As fine abrasive, used in mold processing, gem polishing, gem bearing processing and producing.
Except as abrasives, diamond powders served as functional material is its another important application. Such as thermal property and electrical property. Mixing diamond powders with thermolsetting polymer resin, cellulose, phenol resin or a ceramic sheet, it can form a new material with high thermal conductivity and low thermal expansion. Mixing diamond powder into metal sheet, such as nickel sheet or stainless steel, it can be made into new sheet material with the character of high thermal conductivity, low thermal expansion and light weight, which can be made into high-energy-density device for thermal control.
60% of diamond powders are made into diamond paste, diamond powder mixture and diamond grinding liquid. With the improvement of high-fine grinding technology, the flatness, parallel and glancing flatness of parts processing have reach higher precise tolerance. The main problem that grinding industries face is the surface of processing without any defects, such as scratch. How to eliminate these defects mainly depends on the four factors:
1. The particle size uniformity of diamond powder
2. The particle shape of diamond powder
3. The mixing ratio and purity
4. Chemical carrier
