With the continuous improvement of gem diamond synthesis technology, the grade of best synthetic diamond has exceeded the grade of natural diamond. Synthetic diamonds set many excellent performance. Beside super-hard features, it also has the highest thermal conductivity, excellent optical properties, semiconductor properties and chemical stability. The application of synthetic diamond today has covered many areas. It is no exaggeration to say that there is no modern industry without synthetic diamonds. In spite of this, compared with the potential of diamonds, so far we have only developed a small part of the application of diamond. In terms of the application of diamond, at present, most synthetic diamonds are used for cutting and grinding.
Synthetic diamond is used as a kind of cutting material with its super-hard characteristics, high thermal conductivity, high wear resistance, chemical stability, low expansion rate and its low friction coefficient between the material to be cut. With high transmittance from X-ray to the whole wave band of the microwave, high hardness, high thermal conductivity, high chemical stability, and low expansion coefficient, synthetic diamond is an excellent optical material. The diamond anvil made of grinded bright large single crystal diamond combined with laser heating, Raman spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction and other means can be used to help us study the material properties under extreme high temperature and pressure conditions, which is the basic research method for geology and planetary science .
